Dave Grohl is ready to abdicate the throne.
For almost two months, the Foo Fighters frontman has been flexing his drum muscles on the road with Queens of the Stone Age. He also played on the band's upcoming record Songs for the Deaf, which comes out August 27. In May, Grohl said he was a full-fledged Queen, a permanent fixture of the band's ever-rotating lineup. Since then, he's had a change of heart.
Grohl's last appearance as a Queen will be at the band's next show, July 28 at the Fuji Rock Festival in Niigita, Japan, Interscope Records said. Foo Fighters' publicist didn't return calls. Queens of the Stone Age will practice with various drummers in their quest for a replacement. In the past, the group has played with Alfredo Hernandez, Gene Troutman and Barrett Martin, among others.
Queens of the Stone Age plan to have a new drummer in place in time for a tour with ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, which begins August 30 in Washington, D.C. Shows are slated to run through October.
The fourth Foo Fighters album, One by One, is due for release October 22, and the first single will be "All My Life." The band is scheduled to fly to Europe in August to play England's Reading and Leeds festivals.
